City Living: Space Saving Solutions
Over the last ten years I have lived in the snowy suburbs of Denver, the quaint city of Omaha and in sunny Scottsdale. All of those living conditions came with ample closet space, open spaces to decorate and a fabulous shoe closet. Fast forward to today, where I live in a one bedroom ocean view apartment in the heart of San Francisco where extra space is nothing more than a faint memory!
With the help of Marie Kondo, and researching every space saving storage solution on the internet here is what I came up with!
Coffee Table with Hidden Storage
This is the perfect height coffee table to have in front of the couch in a small apartment for lounging around, or dining in front of the TV. The table top lifts right up to chest height and you are ready to snuggle up with some popcorn and watch The Bachelor. But of course the most practical aspect of this piece is all the storage room inside! I use it to hold larger items that are fragile like picture frames and seasonal art work. Shop colors here.
Storage Ottoman
This faux leather ottoman comes in several colors and is great quality. The best part is it took me under one minute to set up! This is a perfect foot rest for the couch, or under a desk. It’s great for holding books, throw blankets, any and everything! Snag this for under $20!
Hanging Shelves
I recently redecorated our space, and became obsessed with hanging shelves. Modern, sleek looking and so versatile! I have one in every room in the house. Here are some examples of how I used them for display and storage.
Storage Cabinets
The name says it all! These versatile pieces can hold an incredible amount. I have two in the living room, one for storing holiday decorations and other for fitness equipment, household goods and board games. You better believe I Marie Kondo’d this space up! Magnetic Spice Jars
How freaking cool are these? Amazon find! These are great for storing the spices you use the most, and adding a cool detail on your frig with a modern edge. Shop here.
Under the Bed Shoe Bins
Under the bed if organized, can be one of the best places in smaller living spaces to store shoes, sweaters, off-season wardrobes, etc. I prefer to use clear tupperwares with wheels so I can easily see what is in which container. Shop here.

Hanging Hats
Free up some closet space, and add a fun detail to your bedroom wall or entry way. All you need is a hammer and nail, and get to displaying and storing that cute hat collection!
