About Me
Welcome to Well Rounded, a lifestyle blog from yours truly Brittany Benson, and occasionally Bailey the Westie!
About Me- I was born and raised on a farm in Nebraska, had a career that took me all around the country, living in cities like Denver and Scottsdale and now working with the world’s top tech companies out in Silicon Valley. Once I hit my thirties, I realized there were a lot of things I wish I would have heard being a working woman in my twenties. I was fortunate enough to have many great mentors that shaped my life, and encouraged my passions so I’m here to offer encouragement, best practices and witty banter to anyone that wants to listen! This blog will touch on all of my favorites from style, decor, life hacks, and hopefully bring a little joy to your day.
Well Rounded Style- Unlike what we see in the media, not all body types are a size zero, some are born with curves or as I like to call them Well Rounded. When it comes to style, I’m here to share affordable, everyday fashion that works with most body types. Especially those that have a shorter, curvier frame like myself. I’m 5’0, 150 pounds and a size 10. From curvy & athletic to tall & slender, I will aim to share styles that help you feel confident, and are budget friendly!
Well Rounded Life- Well rounded is also how I’ve always tried to live my life. My goal is to always be growing in my faith, perform professionally, exercise and eat well, put my family and friends first, be the best darn puppy mommy I can be and to bring in a little sunshine to those that I’m in contact with.
On this blog, my goal is to share content that you find useful and inspiring. I look forward to hearing what types of topics you would like covered, and connecting with each and every one of you! DM me your ideas here
My Background
College: University of Nebraska
I am a Cornhusker through and through, there is no place in the world like Memorial Stadium on a brisk, Fall, Saturday morning. I can attest to this because after years of broadcasting and seeing hundreds of sports venues across the country, Nebraska takes the cake. To note, I am a bit biased! My college years were spent working my butt off with two majors and two minors, running from soccer practice to teach fitness classes and personal train clients, and holding 3-5 jobs at all times. It was a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Football
I know when you look at me the first thing you think is I bet that girl played in a full tackle women’s football league, but it’s true. As many of you know, there are very few avenues for women to play sports at high level after college. When you devote your entire life to sports, it’s very hard to walk away from them in an instant. When I was in Elementary School and I saw my town advertising for summer football camps, I asked my Mom to sign me up. She replied “But only boys play football” and I looked back at her puzzled and said “Why?” My Mom being the fierce, strong woman that she is made it happen and I was the first female ever to go through our city’s youth football program. Fast forward 15 years, when I had the opportunity to try out for the Legends Football League, I took it. I played Running Back and Corner Back, and this experience gave me exactly what I needed to transition into Sports Broadcasting and be able to talk football with all the men I would be around on set.
Sports Broadcasting
The years I spent in front of the camera talking post game stats, on sidelines interviewing coaches and players and interviewing celebrities on red carpets were some of the most exhilarating and memorable times of my life. The nonstop travel, grind of coming up with content and keeping up “the look” were exhausting, but were unmatched by the adrenaline you would feel on a sideline after the team you were covering pulled off a big win, or when Tim Tebow your longtime crush steps in front of you on a red carpet. These are memories I will cherish forever.
Golf
For any of you that follow me on social media you see that golf is a huge part of my life, and it has been since I was a little kid. Some of my favorite memories are getting kicked off the practice green at night because it was dark out and the clubhouse workers wanted to go home, but my Dad, little brother and I had to see who was going to win the putting contest! After high school State Championships and decades of weekend golf tournaments, I stepped away from golf during my college years to focus on the sports above knowing that I would be able to play/compete in it the rest of my life where the others had a smaller window. Once my career took me to Scottsdale after my football days were over, the golf bug came right back and now nearly every weekend is filled with playing courses around the country, local tournaments and reviewing courses on our site @drivechipandpup.
Dance/Fitness/Music
The last passion I’ll share is my love for performing. Dancing, singing, acting, you name it. Growing up in dance classes and singing in choirs, I was ecstatic to come across Show Choir which put all my favorite things together. Not to mention competition, if you have gathered anything from above it’s that I love the rush of competition. Getting opportunities to sing and dance around the country, and on tour in Europe with the group Fame was an incredible experience. I continued that passion into college, studying dance/music, teaching adult fitness, Zumba and dance classes. Now I take those classes any chance I get, and go get my Beyonce on for an hour!
Bailey the Westie
